Art After Ayahuasca

I recently had a profound plant medicine journey where I sat with  Ayahuasca over three ceremonies. This medicine comes from the Amazon and is steeped in rich traditions of the indigenous peoples there. Its name is a combination of “aya”, meaning soul, and “huasca”, meaning vine.

Last week I was sharing with a friend and they asked me; “are you inspired to start creating what you saw?”. Certainly… this was something I was graciously ready to receive going in. It would be a blessing to have that lived experience activate my imagination in new ways. I heard the question and I instantly knew: I am, already. My art is fractal.

Fractals are the universe’s poetry. A blueprint of endlessly intricate and repeating patterns within patterns. They reveal a profound complexity hidden within simplicity. That all of life, seen and unseen, is woven together.

Fractal energy waves are patterns of consciousness. Richard Rudd says they “arise in our world of form through holographic manifestations of light”. When I begin to create, I let my sensitivity attune me to these waves. Once I’m harmonized, I can ride them. Then it’s simply a matter of encountering what’s ready to emerge with utmost receptivity. It’s that channel of flowing coherence, where soulful listening meets soulful leading, where everything comes alive. My artwork is the ripple effect of this process reaching your shores.

Fractals reveal the true nature of reality: that we embody microcosms which reflect macrocosms. On my journey with Ayahuasca, I experienced this through multi-sensory knowing. It was both overwhelmingly beautiful, challenging and unquestionably common sense.

On the other side now, I see even clearer the interlinked web of art and life as something both practical and transcendent. I feel this epitomizes my Flowetry, and the creativity of this moment on Earth. One that indigenous cultures and belief systems have long exemplified: that to live is to imagine ourselves not only connected to, but an expression of, the nature within us and around us. And while this is innate - meaning, a soul longing - it does require the deep revolutionary work of remembrance. Of what it’s like to get into flowing reciprocity with the world, and the world with us.

The teachings of Grandmother Ayahuasca has pierced my heart in new ways. There’s no way to quantify that moment in time and space, but I felt her dissolve all sense of separateness.

From that experience I feel great responsibility for contributing to creating a world that celebrates dynamism, interdependence and mystery, not reduction and explanation. I do feel that the fractal nature of my art is what so many of you resonate with. These are spaciously abstract expressions and yet cellularly familiar for you. They invite your own perceptions to sing themselves alive. And in that is seeing yourself as belonging in all parts of the whole.

FRACTALESSENCE

New alcohol ink and mixed media collection inspired by Mothers. Beautiful alcohol ink art inspired by the moon.

FRACTALESSENCE

the nature in which one essential point bursts into many

This collection explores The Mother.

A vast tapestry. Threads of individual memories, stories, and emotions.

And the grace that weaves it together.

The archetype of The Mother is an eternal energy.

One that contains timeless virtues of creativity, love, and nurturing.

And yet these enduring simplicities are greeted with much complexity and an incredibly nuanced space in-between;

love  and  loss

strength  and  softness

closeness  and  longing

form  and  formlessness

freedom  and  control

resilience  and withdrawal

My intention with this collection is to a series of abstract art in conversation with this dynamic tapestry. Compositions to hold these themes of shadow and light as they exist interdependently.

Memories, stories, words, feelings all evoked by what Mother means to you. It’s been so special to bring them into the work, turning them into titles and inspiration. Thank you for all you’ve shared.

With gratitude,

3 Keys to RISE UP your Artist Heart

BE FLUID

Be in unwavering pursuit of what creative pleasure feels like for you. Follow your sacred Yes. Try different styles on for size. Explore other artists techniques. Artists are alchemists, pulling from the seen and unseen and distilling into their own unique expression. Stay aware if you're attaching yourself. Attachments breeds perfectionism breeds rigidity. Stay fluid. Know when things are ready to slip away to make room for new.

CATALYZE YOUR SHADOW

… and all those cosmic 2-by-4’s you've got shaken up by. Arts expression has the capacity to hold suffering. Imagination can transform and carry it away. Channel your challenges, grief and heartache into creativity. Reshape your experience through artmagic. Get resilient and resourced AF. Diamonds under pressure. Chaos into innovation.

RECIPROCATE

Spill forth your gifts into your community. Keep the feedback loop alive! Be willing to share your insight. Be in service of the global collective and rewriting the paradigm that only a select few are artists. This doesn't need to feel like giving away every element of what makes your practice sacred. It could feel like guiding others towards accessing their own expression with what you've learned from navigating your own Yes.

Share this with an artist friend you believe in and want to rise up!

In flowetry,

Hilary
